Article: The Neighbor

The Neighbor
I grew up in a small town. One gas station, one grocery store, and a short bike ride to school with friends who lived nearby.
We knew our neighbors. We waved through windows, exchanged conversations over the fence, and occasionally shared a meal. It was simply part of daily life.
Looking back, I realize how much community begins with a small gesture. Crossing a driveway, opening a gate, or extending an invitation. The moment you step beyond the boundaries of your own home, you open yourself to someone else's story.
Over the years, I have come to appreciate the value of knowing the people who live around you. Not because you expect anything in return, but because life is richer when it is shared. A neighbor may become a friend, watch your house while you travel, water your plants, or simply be there when you need a helping hand.
Inviting a neighbor into your home is a small act, but one that strengthens a sense of place. It reminds us that community often begins just beyond the front door.
