Morningside
This historic bungalow nestled within Morningside was purchased by a third-time client of Studio Dixon Rye. Immediately, she brought us in to breathe life and cohesion into the unusual home. While the front portion of the home was original, a new glass-and-metal addition had been added to the back, creating an inherent tension in the style of the home. We leaned into this tension, a core philosophy of our work, and explored the interaction of modern and traditional design.
The rooms are layered and unapologetically moody — wallcovering, pattern, and texture stacked with intention — yet the home never tips into heaviness. There is lightness woven through: in the materials, the restraint of certain moments, the way a lacquered ceiling or a shaft of natural light cuts through the darkness.
Our client is a serious appreciator of art, and the project became as much about collection-building as interior design. Working alongside her, we helped shape an assemblage that moves beyond decoration into something considered and cohesive.
The end result is the epitome of our work - masterfully mixed and exploring the tensions that make a design feel both interesting and timeless.
