Article: The Travel Blazer

The Travel Blazer
Bradley and I travel often—for work, for pleasure, and sometimes for something comfortably in between. Travel is how we find inspiration, stay connected, and experience new cultures and places for ourselves. We thrive on the unknown, and along the way, we collect: objects for our home, treasures for Dixon Rye, and thoughtful things for others.
Before every departure, whether by plane or car, several routines unfold simultaneously. There are bags to pack, passports to locate, chargers to remember, and last-minute tasks that somehow never feel last-minute until they are. Through it all, one rule remains: a travel blazer is never packed away—it is worn for the journey.
It can be as casual as a French or British work jacket, or as tailored as a double-breasted blazer in navy or black. The precise style matters less than its versatility. It should be dark enough to forgive the occasional mark—white, however beautiful, is simply asking for trouble—and it must have pockets for the essentials: phone, passport, wallet.
Worn while traveling, it makes you feel composed before you have even arrived. More importantly, it ensures that an unexpected dinner, appointment, or invitation never catches you entirely unprepared. Throw it over a T-shirt during the day, dress it up in the evening, and suddenly you belong wherever the journey takes you.
Of course, other jackets may find their way into the suitcase. But the travel blazer is the essential one: dependable at any hour, appropriate almost anywhere, and always ready for what comes next.
We have collected a few over the years. They never fail us.
Safe travels.
