Don Wilson | Limestone Sculpture on Base

Don Wilson (1934–2008) was an American sculptor and educator whose work bridges modernist abstraction with organic form. A graduate of the Portland Art Museum School (1962), he later served as Assistant Professor of Art at Portland State University. His sculptures can be found in public and private collections across the United States, including installations in Portland and Seattle that celebrate his distinct exploration of form, material, and balance.

Hand-carved from solid limestone and mounted on a richly grained wood base, the work demonstrates Wilson’s mastery of material and proportion. The interplay of texture—the cool, porous stone against the warmth of the wood—creates a balance that is both sculptural and serene.
